Nearly 27 million American adults have type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) or the metabolic syndrome; of these, 6 million individuals with T2DM remain undiagnosed. At least 57 million more American adults are at high risk for developing T2DM. As front-line clinicians in the care of patients with T2DM, primary care clinicians need to be aware of the benefits and risks of available and emerging treatments for T2DM and be able to effectively tailor therapy to the needs of the patient, taking into consideration findings regarding CV and renal risk reduction and revised guidelines to maximize patient outcomes. 1.0 Contact Hours • .5 Pharmacology Hours Release date: December 1, 2010 • Expiration Date: June 30, 2012 |
